Early in Sept 1st, ministry of industry and information and ministry of housing and urban-rural jointly issued the Action Plan on Promoting the Production and Application of Green Building Materials(hereinafter referred to as “Action Plan”). In the Action Plan, promoting steel and wood constructions have been listed in fourth of the ten promotion actions, which is definitely a good news for steel structure industry.

 

It is clearly stated in the Action Plan that developing steel structure and metal building materials is of great importance. “Steel structure should be extensively used in housing construction, industrial buildings, infrastructure, large span industrial workshop and public facility in the future. And it is necessary to promote the construction of light steel structure houses and encourage the production and the use of light aluminum alloy template and aluminum plate.” In addition, the Action Plan also advocates pilot demonstration on typical urban and engineering projects involving steel structure, wood structure, prefabricated concrete structure, etc.

 

To ensure the production and application of steel structure, several strengthening measures are put forward in the Action Plan:

 

1.Support some of the regions to set up specific funds on green building material, research and formulate enterprise value-added tax preferential policies for those who produce steel structure components. According to some pilot provinces, this policy is expected to expand the steel structure consumption in the rural areas.

 

2.Strengthen the interaction between upstream and downstream enterprises ranging from manufacturing, design and construction. Just as the expert said, the promotion and application of steel structure is systematic and should be coordinated by upstream and downstream industries. Iron and steel enterprises should collaborate together to upgrade their products and promote the industrialization development of construction steel.   

 

Under such positive circumstances, it is believed that steel structure industry will enjoy a bright prospect in the next few decades. And steel structure enterprises should wrest the initiative, make a green action program to gain the maximum support from the policy according to the requirements of the Action Plan.
